Mrs. Antunes, a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, raised her family on the land. The surviving daughters of Mrs. Antunes, who passed away in 2017, said she had always wanted the forest to be in the care of tribal people. They were grateful to find the Native Land Conservancy to fulfill this desire.
In the summer of 2025, the children of Ethellene Antunes honored the final wishes of their late mother by donating 5.1 acres to the Native Land Conservancy. The land had been connected to their family homestead in Mashpee and has a narrow frontage on Orchard Road and a cul-de-sac with a small neighborhood of private homes.
