.826 acres abutting Mashpee River

Location

82 Great Neck Road North, Mashpee. MA

Natural & Cultural Significance

On December 2nd of 2025 the Native Land Conservancy took into care a small but significant parcel of land at 82 Great Neck Road North in Mashpee that abuts the Mashpee River. The rescue of this land just shy of an acre on the banks of the Mashpee River assures that no development will take place amid the healthy forest of scrub pine, red maple, red oak, holly, hickory and elderberry and will not disturb the essential ecosystem that is home to sensitive and endangered medicinal and pollinator plants.

The Mashpee River has been continually degraded as a result of nutrient inputs from expanding development, rendering its waters unsafe for swimming or drinking.

The preservation of this land will contribute to overall efforts to restore the health of the river for critically important inhabitants like the herring, trout, sucker fish, eel, muskrat, and river otter.
