Land Care Simpkins Bog

Join us for Land Care at Simpkins Bog. You will find parking near to 98 Union Street and follow the trails to the left of the power lines to the bogs. We will be clearing deadfall, removing invasive species, and conducting trail maintenance. This land just shy of 20 acres was donated by Jacqueline Rivero

Part of the area is an abandoned cranberry bog (“Simpkins Bog”) that drains a large upstream watershed around Union Street as the headwaters of Whites Brook into Chase Garden Creek and thus to Cape Cod Bay.  The old bog has evolved through natural succession into a deciduous forested swamp, primarily red maple and highbush blueberry, providing a diverse wildlife habitat.
